We’re honored to share that our founder, Galina Semenova, was recently featured in the San Diego Union-Tribune in a moving article by journalist Lisa Deaderick, titled:
“This photographer wants to help women see what she sees – that they are beautiful, powerful.”
In her recent Galina Semenova Union-Tribune feature, Galina reflects on the origins of Womanity Portrait Foundation and her personal journey that inspired its creation. Through her nonprofit, she helps breast cancer survivors reclaim their sense of self through photography, creativity, and community.
“When women see themselves through another’s eyes, there’s no judgment – only truth,” Galina shares in the article. “Through photography, I help them see their resilience, their beauty, and their strength.”
Founded in 2024, Womanity Portrait Foundation offers free portrait sessions, creative workshops, and healing retreats for breast cancer survivors. Each experience helps women rebuild confidence, find meaningful connection, and rediscover a sense of wholeness after cancer.
At Womanity, we believe every woman deserves to see herself as whole, beautiful, and powerful – and this feature celebrates that mission and the women who inspire it every day.
Galina also spoke about her ongoing project, Dreams Beyond Tomorrow – a collaborative portrait and short film series created with women living with Stage IV breast cancer, supported by the City of Chula Vista’s Visual and Performing Arts Grant.
“Every story is a mirror of strength,” she says. “Through these portraits, we are creating empathy, awareness, and lasting social change.” Every story we tell through photography helps women see themselves beyond their diagnosis and into their power. Through this ongoing work, we continue building a community of healing, connection, and strength.
We are deeply grateful to the San Diego Union-Tribune for spotlighting this important work—and to every woman who has trusted us with her story.
